Do you know about the paranormal events experienced by the Perron family that inspired the movie ‘The Conjuring’?
The Conjuring Movie and The Perron Family Connection
The Paranormal Events that Befell the Perron Family. Most of us are familiar with “The Conjuring”. Directed by James Wan and written by Chad and Carey Hayes, “The Conjuring” is an American supernatural horror film series released in 2013.
Based on true stories, “The Conjuring” chronicles the chilling cases encountered by the world-renowned couple, Ed and Lorraine Warren, who investigated and sought to shed light on supernatural events.
Many viewers assumed that the film was simply a product of James Wan’s wild imagination. However, the reality was even more terrifying. James Wan had condensed years of horrific events into a film. The true story behind the first “The Conjuring” film was actually based on a terrifying real-life experience of Ed and Lorraine Warren.
When “The Conjuring” was released in 2013, it received widespread acclaim from critics. Critics everywhere praised the film for its realistic portrayal of an innocent family in Rhode Island being haunted by demons.
Ed and Lorraine Warren’s Investigations
Ed Warren identified himself as a demonologist, a World War II veteran, and a former police officer. After investigating the subject on his own, he became an expert in the field. His wife, Lorraine, claimed to be a clairvoyant and medium who could communicate with the demons discovered by Ed.
The real story behind “The Conjuring”, which focuses on the experiences of the Warrens, begins with the Perron family.
In January 1971, the Perron family moved to a 14-room farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island. Carolyn, Roger, and their five daughters quickly began noticing strange occurrences shortly after moving in.
It all started with little things. Carolyn would notice the broom missing or having moved on its own. She’d hear the sound of something rubbing against the teapot in the kitchen, even when no one was around. Small piles of dirt would appear on a freshly cleaned kitchen floor.
The Perrons believed that the spirit haunting them was that of Bathsheba.
According to Andrea, the family also experienced other spirits that smelled like rotting meat and lifted beds off the ground. She claimed that her father felt a “cold, foul-smelling presence behind him” when he entered the basement. They generally stayed away from the dirt-floored cellar, but their heating equipment would mysteriously break down, forcing Roger to go downstairs.
During the time the family lived in the house, the Warrens visited multiple times to conduct research. Lorraine arranged a séance to communicate with the entities affecting the family. During the séance, Carolyn Perron began speaking in an unknown language and suddenly levitated while seated. Andrea claimed to have secretly witnessed the séance.
Andrea recounted the events of the séance: “I thought I was going to faint. My mother began speaking in a language not of this world. Her chair lifted and was thrown across the room.”
Following the séance, Roger, concerned for his wife’s mental health, asked the Warrens to leave. According to Andrea, the family continued to live in the house due to financial constraints, and it was only when they were able to move in 1980 that the hauntings ceased.
